It's no surprise to me that we hear every week or so of another solar energy company going out of business. Solar and wind will never make an economical contribution to our energy challenge, and it has nothing to do with our desire to make it happen or lack of technical innovation.
Rather, it is about the immutable laws of nature and thermodynamics that recognize that the usefulness of energy (for example, its ability to do work) decreases over time and space. This is common sense.
Trying to harness energy from wind and solar is like trying to make hydroelectric power from the rain.
