SUBURBAN TRENDS
Now that alternative energy is growing in popularity with the cost of
traditional energy rising and people becoming more environmentally
conscious, towns are preparing for the safe installation of green technology,
and Bloomingdale is no exception.
At its Sept. 25 meeting, the Borough Council adopted an ordinance providing for the safe, effective, and efficient use of solar panels. No one opted to speak at the public hearing in the ordinance.
Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy said the borough did not have an ordinance that regulated the installation of solar panels or wind turbines. Borough Construction and Building Sub Code Official Daniel Hagberg recommended the drafting and adoption of the ordinance.
Hagberg wanted an ordinance that would promote the safe installation of green technology. The borough's new ordinance is tailored after ordinances recently adopted in Butler and Kinnelon, where Hagberg also serves as a construction official.
