The Indian nuclear energy space is likely to see an investment of about Rs 3,00,000 crore during the 12th Five Year Plan even as efforts are on to begin work on as many as 20 nuclear reactors, Srikumar Banerjee, atomic energy commission chairman and department of atomic energy secretary.

According to him, though present systems are safe, there is a need to work on new processes to restore confidence of people relating on aspects relating to safety. The need to allay the fears become significant in the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the Kudankulam project in Tamil Nadu and the radiation leakages at the Fukushima Nuclear Plant in Japan due to the earthquake and tsunami last year, he said.
