Benefits of Solar Steam Cooking Installation
Conventional Cooking vs Solar Cooking
An increasing usage of electricity, LPG & Diesel as fuel for cooking activities is costing prohibitively. In addition to environmentally debilitating pollution, the labour involved & time required for conventional bulk cooking is very high, plus there are chances of foul smell due to direct or indirect body contact of fuel used. The smoke poses threat to the health of the kitchen workers. Solar steam cooking is the obvious answer to all these problems & it is most efficient and cost effective.
Solar Steam cooking is achieved by using parabolic concentrators to generate steam at the pressure of 12 to 16 bars and stored in the Steam Header. The high pressure of steam is dropped to a safe approved limit of 1 to 1.2 bars in pressure reducing station. This reduced pressure steam is then transported to steam-cooking vessels. The system can easily cook Rice ( 8-9 mins), Dal ( 9-12 min), potato/vegetables ( 4-6 mins) for mroe than 500 people. This steam can even be used for preparation of Idly, Dhokala, Paratha, Tea, Coffee and traditional dishes. The steam can be comfortably regulated from the kitchen itself.
Subsidies & Incentives
Government of India has launched an aggressive plan titled "Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission" targetting 200 MW capacity equivalent offgrid solar applications and 7 million sq. meters of solar thermal collector area by March, 2013. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy ( MNRE) has issued the detailed guidelines for implementation of one of the components on “Off-grid and Decentralized Solar Applications” thereby offering an attractive capital subsidy of Rs 3300 /sq. m for Flat Plate Collectors with liquid as working fluid and Rs 3000/ sq m for Evacuated tube collectors. Besides subsidy, Banks will offer loans at the rate of 5% for Off-grid & Decentralized Solar projects.
